Leather Corduroys feat. Chance the Rapper- I Told You So: 3 / 5

Leather Corduroys is a rap duo from Chicago made up of Joey Purp and KAMI who recently released their Season EP. The first song of the project, “I Told You So”, serves as one of the singles heading the EP, and features fellow Chicagoan Chance the Rapper.

“I Told You So” doesn’t feature much rapping from the duo, and none from Chano. Instead, it serves as more of an atmospheric opener for the rest of the EP. Two short verses are repeated multiple times, and at only a few lines each, it’s hard to place what the message is exactly without the context of the rest of the album. This track is more about the start of the album setting a certain vibe. It starts with dreamy synth and gradually adds a soft drum track and handclaps that build until the end of the song. Chance doesn’t provide any vocals, but instead hums and beatboxes (more or less) in the background.

With so little to go off here, it’s hard to gain a full appreciation of the track, yet it still is able to swell into an atmospheric track that easily calms your mind. Hopefully this peaceful, chilled out vibe is one that carries across the whole Season EP.
